Self-healing Ability of Epoxy Vitrimer Nanocomposites Containing Bio-Based Curing Agents and Carbon Nanotubes for Corrosion Protection

Epoxy is extensively used for anti-corrosion coatings on metallic materials. Conventional epoxy have a permanent crosslink network that unable to repair itself when cracks and damages occur the coating layer. This study aims develop self-healing vitrimer/carbon nanotube (CNTs) nanocomposite coating. Two bio-based curing agents viz., cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) citric acid (CA) were employed create covalent adaptable networks. The 0–0.5 wt% CNTs also incorporated into epoxy/CNSL/CA matrix (V-CNT0-0.5). Based results of our study, thermomechanical properties V-CNT nanocomposites increased with increasing content. bond exchange reaction esterification was thermally activated by near infrared (NIR) light. V-CNT0.5 showed highest efficiency in Shore D hardness 97.34%. corrosion resistance coated steel V-CNT0 observed after immersing samples 3.5 NaCl 7 days. rate decreased from 9.53 × 102 MPY 3.12 10–5 whereas an increase protection 99.99% observed. By taking advantages superior properties, could prove be desirable organic material.
